5: To the UAE, with gratitude!

My name is Ramesh. I’m from India, and I live in Dubai. I’ve been here for over 20 years – this is where I met my wife, had my two kids and set up my business.

In 2020, I was deeply troubled by several issues. I had eight families (including my own and those of my employees) to care for. Business was at a standstill. The future was indeed bleak and we continuously looked for signs of hope and confidence.

My story is a story of gratitude to the leadership of the UAE. Within a few weeks of the pandemic, everyone was made aware of safe practices. The police, health workers and other frontline warriors were mobilized at a rapid pace. The leaders of the UAE and government departments sent out messages of confidence, and consistently reassured everyone – nationals and expats – that we’d get through this. And we did. Way before the end of the year, while other nations were still struggling with containment policies, the UAE opened up for business and life.

I am deeply grateful to the leadership of the UAE for shining its light of confidence and courage, which for many like me was enough to get me back into action. I truly wish other nations could take lessons in the future from the UAE – it’s not about money or oil or real estate – it’s the will from the top to secure its society for generations to come.

God bless my second home, the United Arab Emirates!
