62: 2020- Light Digital Finally Saw The “Light”

Richard Branson once said, “Entrepreneurship isn’t just a label – it is a lifestyle!”

I knew when I was starting my own business that it wasn’t going to be easy. Something in me constantly drove me to believe that I could do it on my own! So in 2017, after a successful corporate marketing stint of (so many) years, I decided to simply move from my well-paying job and venture out on my own. I had started with nothing. Nothing but my acumen for marketing and the belief that I could do it!

During the early days of Light Digital, I had a hard time trying to sell the idea of ‘going digital’ to everyone I met. They either thought they could do it themselves, or were too sceptical of investing in it. I started as a solopreneur and had my share of ups and downs. Until the January of 2020, Light Digital had grown considerably and it felt like it was the right time to push further and take the next step.

However, in the meantime, COVID happened! The market took a U-turn and suddenly, it felt like the goals that I had planned for the year might not be met.

But then, something incredible happened. 2020 became a gamechanger and a blessing in disguise!  “Digital” became the solution to almost everything. Businesses wanting to invest and go digital became a thing! The onset of this unexpected change, this really benefited us, the business grew – clients, accounts, brand size, and even staff. Where other businesses were trying to rationalize their workforce, I was hiring talent! We also landed fruitful collaborations, opening us up to even more opportunities. By the end of year, I didn’t need to “sell digital” anymore.

Thanks to 2020, I have come to appreciate not only my resilience but also the value of gratitude! I am extremely grateful to the clients who appreciated our work, trusted us, as well as to the ones who didn’t. They have all taught me something which is going to stay with me, always! I realized that the tides will not always be in my favour, but my persistence and hard work can get me through everything.

Thank you 2020, for affirming that I am a doer, a dreamer, a thinker. And I see possibility everywhere!
